Building & Other Permit Approval

The Little Tokyo Redevelopment Plan requires CRA/LA's review and approval of any permit application before the Department of Building and Safety can issue a building permit. The Little Tokyo Redevelopment Plan contains, among other provisions, development standards regarding density, design and permitted land uses. Planning & Designs Guidelines

In line with the state's efforts to preserve California’s Japantowns (Senate Bill 307), The Board of Commissioners of CRA/LA approved the Planning and Design Guidelines for Little Tokyo on April 6, 2006.

The Planning and Design Guidelines will help ensure that the Little Tokyo Redevelopment Project Area and a few surrounding blocks (including a portion of the Arts District), will contain architectural elements, signage and building materials that are identified with the Japanese culture, thus help preserve the area as a culturally unique neighborhood.
