Building & Other Permit Approval
The Hollywood Redevelopment Planrequires CRA/LA's review and approval of any permit application before the Department of Building and Safety can issue a building permit. The redevelopment plan for Hollywood contains development standards regarding density, design and increased sensibility to historic structures. Developers and contractors are strongly advised to contact Allison Becker, Associate Planner at (323)960-2660 early in the process in order to prevent last minute difficulties.
Development Density
Many sites in Hollywood have "D" or "Q" Conditions which limit density, but permit the density to be increased upon the adoption of certain findings by CRA/LA's Board of Commissioners, and approval of an agreement between the Agency and the developer.  The Agency expects a substantial portion of the value increment derived from the additional density to be reflected in additional community benefits.
Designs For Development

On April 3, 2003 the Agency Board adopted a Design for Development for Signs in Hollywood. The standards and requirements contained in this document are in addition to those contained in the City's Sign Code.

CRA/LA expects to adopt a Design For Development of Multifamily Residential Properties by December 2005. Upon adoption, it will require that all multifamily structures in the Hollywood Redevelopment Project Area meet specific design criteria in order to obtain Agency approval of proposed residential projects.  Please contact our planning staff at the beginning of the design process in order to prevent costly problems. Land Use Conformity

The May 20, 2003 Amendment to the Hollywood Redevelopment Plan updated land use requirements of the Plan to bring them into conformity with the Hollywood Community Plan as it existed on that date. Consequently, CRA/LA no longer requires an agreement with the developer in order to permit residential uses in an area designated for commercial uses.
