SUMMER LIGHTS FESTIVAL AND NIGHT MARKET:
Scheduled for the summer of 2010, the first annual Chinatown Summer Lights Festival and Night Market will combine elements from successful international night markets and lantern festivals throughout Asia to create an event tailored for and unique to Los Angeles’ Chinatown.  The Chinatown Summer Lights Festival and Night Market will be the signature summer event for Chinatown, helping to rebrand the community as a World Class Cultural Capital.  For flyer and more information,

CRA/LA IS AWARDED GRANT:

The CRA/LA was recently awarded a $10,000 grant by The Los Angeles County Preservation seed grant funds for the Central Plaza Gateways Restoration Project. Specifically, grant funds will be used to hire a historic architect to complete an architectural plan for the restoration of two gateways of Chinatown's Central Plaza (1938-39, Local). While the East and West gates serve as major focal points within the community, they are visibly deteriorated, with faded and chipped paint, and significant dry rot. Funds will also be used to offset the cost of repairing deteriorated wood elements and paint restoration of the two gates. This restoration project is part of a larger effort to revitalize Chinatown through preservation and promotion of its cultural wealth.
