Creating a vibrant Los Angeles Sports and Entertainment District (LASED) is taking active steps forward. Negotiations are currently underway to create a world-class hotel for the Los Angeles Convention Center. LA Live, the mixed use development proposed adjacent to Staples Center and the new hotel is estimated to cost $1.2 billion in development. The prevailing wage jobs and the purchase of materials, within the City of Los Angeles, will help boost the economy of the entire area. The plans for the LASED include a 30,000-seat live theatre, high-end movie cinema complex, restaurants, music and dance venues, as well as a 55-story, 1300 room Downtown hotel complex, which will include meeting and convention facilities. This concept began with the development of the Staple’s Center as a catalyst for the South Park area and the City. This public-private partnership has a comprehensive community benefits packaged endorsed by local advocacy groups, requiring that the developers and tenants in the district provide significant contributions through prevailing wages and living wage jobs, affordable housing, arts, and public recreation space.
