Nosotros Foundation, Inc.
Ricardo Montalban Theatre Façade Renovation
2004

Project Area:  Hollywood
Project:  Ricardo Montalban Theatre Façade Renovation
Project Location:  1615 N. Vine Street
Project Type:  CRA/LA Initiated

Description:

Renovation of the Doolittle Theatre restored the theater's façade to closely resemble its original Myron Hunt design of 1926 when it was the Wilkes Vine Street Theater.  Upon completion the theater was renamed after actor Ricardo Montalban, the founder of the Ricardo Montalban Nosotros Foundation which owns and operates the theater.  A forgivable loan from the Hollywood Cultural Trust Fund matched other contributions at least one-to-one.  Arturo Yanez of Fisher Sehgal Yanez, Inc. was the architect for the renovation.

Artist Profile

The Nosotros Foundation was established in 1970 by Ricardo Montalban to improve the image of Latinos and Hispanics as they are portrayed in the entertainment industry.  The foundation works to expand employment opportunities as well as train members of their organization to become better actors and industry professionals.  Montalban, a legendary film and television actor, has played numerous roles in the industry, most notably “Mr. Roark” in the television show Fantasy Island.  Montalban still serves as the Nosotros Foundation’s President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees where he continues his on-going efforts to reach out to the community to find and encourage creative young people to enter the entertainment profession.
