Description:

Artist Kunio Ohashi collaborated with architects Tierra Sol y Mar on the design of a major upgrade to the Ivar Theatre's façade. The renovation added neon lighting, large metal letters, new window glass, light boxes and a new wall title. The theater is owned and operated by the California Youth Theatre.

Artist Profile

Kunio Ohashi formally trained at the Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, Washington.  Solo exhibitions of Ohashi’s work have been featured at the Museum of Neon Art, Los Angeles; Oceanside Museum of Art, CA; University of California, San Diego; Edwin A. Ulrich Museum of Art, Wichita; Spiral Gallery, Tokyo, Japan; and Caretta Shiodome, Tokyo, Japan.  The Ivar Theatre Façade project was the artist’s first major public art commission.  In 2004, Ohashi curated the Neon Art Exhibition at the Los Angeles International Airport.  The artist lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
