Anne Marie Karlsen
Blossoming
2011

Project Area:  Council District 9 Corridors Project Area
Project:  Crossings on 29th Street
Project Location:  824 E. 29th Street
Project Type:  CRA/LA Initiated

Description:

Anne Marie Karlsen has designed three murals that are a stunning addition to the Crossings on 29th Street community center.  The mural features fields of magnolias blooming into a sea of jade, bronze, and copper colored iridescnet accents.  The artist worked closely with the architect, interior designer, and general contractor to integrate the artwork into the space.  Expert craftsmanship was required in envery stage of the project, from the the digital mapping of the design, translation into a large scale "cartoon" on which to coordinate the tiles colors, to the hand-cutting of the tiles from glass and natural stone, through to the seamless apllication of mortar and grout to set the tiles in place.
